Since choosing a photographer is not as easy as people think. I thought I would answer some of the most frequently asked questions.
What is the most important part of hiring your wedding photographer?
Well I think that you must get along with your photographer. You are going to be spending a lot of time together and if you cant relax and be yourself then trying to capture the true you in a camera is not going to happen. You need a photographer that is going to relax you and make you feel special and try and help out not get you stressed out. You need a photographer that can take command of a large room. Also knows what is coming next. Knows what to expect and can answer questions that the bride and groom may have. See your photographer is the one that is going to be around you all day he must know these questions you ask and know what to expect. Getting a non professional is an accident waiting to happen. You need to look back at your whole wedding experiences as being one great day to the beginning of your wonderful life together. Also I have always felt that to capture love on a camera that you have know what love truly means. I have one wonderful wife that I love with all my heart. I understand that a slight hand touch or a simple glance and smile can mean the world to each other. Some dont understand and only want to capture the kiss not each others souls.
What are the advantages of hiring a professional wedding photographer?
This is the most important question one can ask. Well in this day and age of the digital era it seems everyone that owns a camera thinks that He or She can photograph a wedding. Photographing weddings takes many different photography styles to accomplish. Let alone learn the ins and outs of lighting and how your camera captures it. Oh please remember that you can hire your next-door neighbors son Bobby can do it for Gas money. He did take that Summer photography Class at the local Junior Collage. I bet your Uncle Mark can do it cheap. Hes the one who has been taking these awesome pictures of his cat. So that dress that cost you thousands of dollars that you looked incredible with. The one that will soon become a family heirloom. Or youre wedding cake. Is that the one that you spent weeks looking for the Perfect one. Would you really want to trust them to capture your once in a life time memories. The ones that your Family members hundreds of years from now will be looking at. Wouldnt you want them to look at your day and see it through the Eyes of a Professional. Like a few clients of mine said. You cant put a Price on Memories Yea the price is right but see it as an Investment in to your Family Tree of Memories.
What kind of style do you shoot?
Well I specialize in photojournalism, fashion, portraiture, fine art and still life photography before I turned to being a wedding photographer. Well I have developing my wedding style by fusing all of these. I tend to see a lot of photographers trying to emulate one another. I try to make your day special by using my style not others. There are a lot of styles out there. Make sure it suites you both.
How many years of experience do you have as a photographer?
I started out in photography at the age of 10 years old. I have had owned a camera ever since. I have took every class threw Jr. High and High School. I then went out in the work force not knowing that one can make it as a photographer. As I gotten older I wanted to go and see if I could do it. I went to Collage to see what it could teach me. I was surprised that there was not a lot that they could teach me. For the two years I was there I took the Photographer of the year awards back to back. I am the only person to have done this. I started out with fashion, Portraiture and photojournalism. I then was asked to do a wedding. I took to it and loved it. Wedding photography for me is throwing everything I love about shooting and rolling it up into one big day. It almost seems like it isnt work. And then seeing how pleased the new couples are about there images is the most rewarding thing. Just knowing that my images will be pasted down for generations to come.
Do you shoot Film or Digital?
First off I shoot Digital. I was at one time a film photographer only. With the new digitals that have came out in the last few years I made the jump. I am so glad I did. It has been a true blessing. For one thing try and find a lab that can develop a roll of film correctly is the one thing that turned me to digital. Then with the advancement of the sensors in these cameras has made the digital photography a true breeze. I shoot with all Nikon Brand cameras and Lens. These Cameras are state of the art and are a 12.4 mega pixel camera. Meaning that every shot has a chance to produce a 32x40 image. Film cameras can only make a good 16x20 image. One thing with digital is that every shot can be a Color or Black and White image.
Are you a full time Wedding Photographer?
Yes I am. I have been for over 8 years now.
Approximately how many pictures will be shot throughout the day?
Everyone I know has asked this question. Well it does depend. See I shoot images as they come. Then as I start my color correcting I edit it down. I try and edit it down to about 1000 to 1500 images. But I do tend to capture around 2500 images at any giving wedding. Some say why so many? I shot it as it happens and if it takes that much, well its digital. Hey as a client this is great for you.
That would you say that helps make a great image?
Location, location, location.
Look i cant make Motel 6 look like the Fairmont Hotel in San Francisco. But i will sure try. I will use everything in my power to give you the best results possible. But where you get ready, married and places you do your formals is important for Incredible Images.
Time!
Lets say that your running late to your wedding. They cant start without you, right. So since everything is on a timeline the time has to come from somewhere. A lot of times my time gets taken away. My time for Formals are an important part of your Wedding Images. These are the most important people in both your lives that you want to have in your pictures. If my time is limited then it doesnt leave me any time to be Artistic. I need to get the shots and has to move along like an assembly line. I have been in these situations more than I would have liked. One wedding I was told after the Wedding that I had 15minutes to do all the formals and Bridal party pictures. So to move about 45 people to a barn 100 yards away to a beautiful barn with perfect lighting would take 15minutes for them to get there. I did a great job and there were real good but with more time it would have been so amazing.
What about price?
Weddings are expensive. The one thing about it is that everyone wants to get his or her hands into the kitty. I look at it this way. You get married once in your life. You spend a lot of money on a cake you will only eat once and it is gone. You get an expensive dress only to wear once and then put away. Why not get an artistic view of everything you have paid for. After it is all said and done you only have your memories. Might as well get a photographer to document your one and only special day. With me I started out with your day in mind. I noticed that photographers would go and charge a low fee. The couple is thinking WOW what a deal. Not so fast. The one trick they do is having you sign the contract and then after you get your proofs with a copyright stamp on them. See now he has got you. After that you pay per prints you want. I have seen photographer charge up to $60 for an 8x10. I have talked to people that their photographer came out to be well over 3 times my fee. Then they still didn't come out with some images they wanted. With me you get it all. I want you to have everything. I am not in the hostage business. See with my packages you keep all the Digital Negatives. Go and make your own prints or get them printed at my lab. Its your call. In the end I feel it is so worth it.
Payment policy?
What I do is ask for a 33% deposit of your package with your signed contract. At least 3 months before your wedding day I ask for another 33%. Then at least one week before your wedding I would need the remainder This way I don't have to ask for your final payment on your wedding day.
Wedding albums is kind of the same thing. I ask for 50% down and the total then you OK your album and before it goes to the printer.
How far will you travel to a wedding and is there a travel fee?
I will travel anywhere for a wedding. I love to travel and shoot in different locations around the world
How far in advance do you suggest we book our date with you?
Well I feel that your photographer is an important part of your wedding day. I have people book me first then the venue. Well like I tell all my potential clients I run on a first come first serve basis. I don't take sides and I am fare as they come. It all depends on how far in advance you book me. I have people book me 2 years in advance. Most people book me around 12 to 18 months in advance. The way things are I would book well in advance to avoid any schedule
conflicts.
Well that is it. I hope that I answered most of your question and hope it was helpful as well. If you have any other questions feel free to give me a call or email me and I will be gladly to answer them.
