wedding photography

Choosing your wedding photographer can be an overwhelming process. I thought it might be helpful to answer some of my most frequently asked questions.

What is the most important part of hiring your wedding photographer?

In my experience, I believe that you must have a rapport with the photographer that you choose. You will be spending a lot of time together. If you cant relax and be yourself, it will be very difficult to capture the true essence of your wedding. You should choose someone who will make you feel at ease and enhance the quality of your special day.

What are the advantages of hiring a professional photographer?

This is an important question. With all of the technology available today, it seems that anyone with a digital camera can call her or himself a professional photographer. A true wedding professional will capture your day consistently and unobtrusively. Here are a few key qualities to look for when considering a candidate:

1. The ability to take charge of a large group with ease and a sense of fun.

2. Knowledge of all aspects of the wedding day progression, from beginning to end.

3. The ability to work with an event coordinator and/or other wedding professionals.

4. Flexibility and a willingness to assist however needed to make sure that your day is all that you imagined it would be.

5. A style of shooting that both bride and groom truly love.

I want you to look back on your wedding day as the beautiful beginning of your wonderful life together. I strive to capture all of the moments, large and small, for you and your family to remember for generations to come.

What style of photography do you shoot?

I specialize in photojournalism, portraiture and still-life photography. I have developed my wedding style by fusing all of these.

Will it just be you photographing our wedding?

Depending on the size of the event, I have a handful of support photographers that I select from to assist me. I have personally hired and trained each to compliment my own work. They have been chosen not only for their technical abilities, but also their shared enthusiasm for capturing the wedding celebration.

How many years of experience do you have?

I have been shooting professionally for ten years, specializing in wedding photography for the last four. Wedding photography is my true calling. Its artistic, challenging and offers unlimited opportunity for growth. I am getting paid to do what I love express myself creatively and meet new people embarking on one of lifes greatest adventures! To see a newlywed couples pleasure reliving their wedding day through my images is a very special reward.

Do you shoot Film or Digital?

I prefer to shoot digitally. I was at one time a film purist, but with the recent leap in digital technology I have now fully converted. It has been a true blessing, as I now have full creative control over the quality of the final images as opposed to being at the mercy of an outside lab. I use state-of-the-art Nikon brand cameras and equipment, which can produce the highest-quality enlargements, up to 32 x 40.

Are you a full-time wedding photographer?

Yes, I have been for four years.

Approximately how many pictures will be taken throughout our wedding day?

Everyone asks this question! It does depend. I have taken as many as 2,000 and as few as 700. Generally, I take about 1,000 images. Why so many? I really try to capitalize on the advantages of digital equipment. I want to capture that special, fleeting moment, as well as telling the complete story of your day.

How long will you be at our ceremony and reception?

I will be there from the time you begin getting ready until I have covered your entire day, usually between ten and twelve hours. Arrangements can be made in advance for coverage exceeding twelve hours if needed. Im proud to say that I have been complimented on being the hardest-working photographer I have ever seen by more than one wedding coordinator and several wedding guests as well!

Do you like to be included in the dinner?

I do. I like to be seated in the dining room, in an area where I have room to access to my equipment. This is a valuable time for getting great candid shots of the bride and groom with their wedding party and guests. If this is not possible, please let me know in advance and we can make alternate arrangements.

What about price?

Your wedding will be a magical (and expensive!), once-in-a-lifetime event. You will find a beautiful dress that will be worn only once and then put away. The cake will be delicious but it too, will soon be gone. You will have the memories of your day forever. I want to make sure that they are preserved and documented as fully as they were experienced.

I offer my wedding package at one set price that includes full day coverage, all of the digital negatives and 200 selected 4 x 6prints. I also include an album credit if you decide that you would like to have one custom designed and printed. There are no hidden charges or per print costs. Period.

What is your payment policy?

I ask for a 33% deposit with your signed contract to secure the date. I ask for a second payment of 33% at your engagement session (or no later than two months prior to the wedding date). The final payment is due no later than one week prior to the wedding.

Payment terms for wedding albums are 50% upon order with the balance due at delivery.

How far will you travel to shoot a wedding, and what is your travel fee?

I will travel anywhere to shoot your wedding. Im flattered that there are people out of the area that love my work. Ive shot weddings in New Mexico, Washington, Oklahoma, Las Vegas and even Hawaii! Yes, there is a travel fee and it will all depend on where your wedding is, but please ask!

How far in advance do you suggest we book our date with you?

I run my business on a first come, first served basis. I have had couples book me two years in advance, for others I have been able to work with 10 months notice. Please book as far in advance as you are able to avoid scheduling conflicts.
